Mittlerweile hat sich auch der Suchmaschinenbetreiber Google eingeklinkt und ist wohl in letzter Sekunde mit seinem eigenen Dienst Google+ auf den Zug gesprungen, um nichts zu verpassen. Facebook und Google sind die grossen Player und wollen sich gegenseitig die “Kundschaft” abgraben. Denn wer deren Seiten besucht, bekommt auch Werbung präsentiert und genau damit lässt sich gutes Geld verdienen.

Mir geht das so langsam auf die Nerven und es kostet mich einfach zu viel Zeit überall präsent zu sein. Dazu kommen noch die riesigen Fluten an Nachrichten und Diskussionen an denen mal teilhaben kann und soll. Mal abgesehen davon, gibt es immer ein paar schlaue Leute, die Bots schreiben und einen noch zusätzlich piesacken.

Sicherlich kann man Tools einsetzen, die einem die Arbeit damit erleichtern, aber warum der ganze Aufwand? Wenn man bedenkt wieviel Zeit ich damit verbracht habe überall die Facebook-Share oder Like-Buttons einzubauen, sowie das ganze Retweet-Gedöns, Flattr und was es sonst noch so alles gibt. Ich habe es auch satt, überall diese nervigen Share-Buttons zu sehen, denn sie sind schon genauso lästig geworden wie animierende Werbebanner.

Von daher habe ich mich entschlossen, diese Buttons überall wieder rauszunehmen, zumal es mir auch nicht annähernd die Aufmerksam gebracht hat, die ich gerne gehabt hätte. So beschränkt sich die Optik und auch die Inhalte meines Blogs wieder auf das, worauf es ankommt: Nämlich auf genau den Artikel, den der Leser gerade liest. Im Footer sind und bleiben die Profile aufgelistet, und wer mag kann sich dort gerne mit mir verbinden. Ich werde diese Dienste schon weiter nutzen, aber sicherlich nicht meinen Tagesablauf bestimmen lassen.

Ein weiteres Argument diese Buttons zu entfernen ist noch der Datenschutz. Gerade Facebook hat es sich zu eigen gemacht, Daten ohne Ende zu sammeln. Durch das blosse Einbinden der Buttons weiss Facebook ganz genau, von welcher Webseite und von welchem Mitglied diese angezeigt und angeklickt wurden. Ich will das hier nur ganz grob anreissen und erkläre die Funktionsweise später in einem separaten Artikel.

Die anderen Sozialnetzwerkdienstleister sind übrigens auch nicht viel besser was die Datensammelwut angeht. Als Webseitenbetreiber, der solche Buttons einbindet und somit das Sammeln der Daten auch noch fördert, besteht die Gefahr dass man sich strafbar im Sinne des Datenschutzgesetzes macht und kann daher auch abgemahnt werden. Ich empfehle daher jedem Blogger und Webseitenbetreiber sich mit dem Thema zu beschäftigen und diese Buttons ebenfalls ins Nirvana zu verbannen.

Das letzte meiner Werke ist eine Minimal Acid House – Produktion namens “Underpressure”. Eine schöne TB303 Linie zieht sich durch das ganze Stück hindurch garniert mit dezenten Filtern. Ein sanfter Lauf ohne ruckartige Breaks lässt einen Hauch von Trance durchscheinen. Durch nur minimalistische Abwechslungen wird der Song selbst bei einer Spieldauer von etwa achteinhalb Minuten nicht langweilig.

Den charakteristische Klang der 303 hat mich dazu inspiriert in dem Musikvideo einen Smiley tanzen zu lassen, der an die klassische Acid-Zeit erinnert.

In sozialen Netzwerken wird also oftmals zum Remixen aufgerufen und viele Musiker – vor allem Hobbymusiker machen sich an die Arbeit. So hat der Verlag eine Riesenauswahl und kaum Arbeit und Kosten – außer natürlich der Sichtung beziehungsweise das Anhören des Materials.

Amateure machen aber schnell einen entscheidenden Fehler, nämlich loslegen und das Werk abgeben, ohne sich vorher um die Rahmenbedingungen zu kümmern oder sie überhaupt zu lesen.

Wenn die Bedingungen nicht klar festgelegt werden, wirst du als Künstler leer ausgehen. Wenn dir versprochen wird, es gehe nicht um Geld, sondern um Namedropping, dann lass gleich die Finger davon!

Namedropping soll heissen, dass dein Name genannt wird und so dein Berühmtheitsfaktor auf der Skala steigen soll. Aber wer garantiert dir das, wenn du nichts in der Hand hast? Niemand – und es wird auch nicht passieren. Sollte das Ganze ein kommerzieller Erfolg werden, siehst du nicht einen Cent, und was noch schlimmer ist – deinen Namen sicherlich auch nicht!

Ein Beispiel aus folgender Kommunikation, was mir sofort ein Beweis an Unprofessionalität ist:

Kann ich die Vocals auch ohne störende störende Geräusche also den reinen Acapella bekommen?

Soweit schon mal eine nette Kommunikation. Allerdings hat mir schon die letzte Antwort zu denken gegeben. Wenn die Vocals nicht klar und ohne Störgeräusche vorliegen, liegt es nahe, dass diese nicht selbst erstellt, sondern eher irgendwoher entnommen wurden. Daher habe ich eine weitere Mail gesendet und eine überraschende Antwort erhalten.

Bevor ich allerdings anfange, sollten wir uns noch über die Rechte einig sein.

1. Die Nutzungsrechte der vorhanden Melodien sowie Gesang sind vorhanden und ich darf diese nach meinem eigenen Ermessen verwenden.

2. Das Copyright bleibt bei mir und ich räume dir das Recht der uneingeschränkten Verbreitung ein solange mein Name genannt wird.

3. Sollte es zu kommerziellen Verkäufen kommen, so erhalte ich eine angemessene Vergütung von den jeweiligen Einnahmen. Bitte nenne mir einen entsprechenden Prozentsatz.

4. Auch ich habe das Recht mein Werk uneingeschränkt weiterzuverbreiten. Vorzugebende Quellenangaben bitte ich mitzuteilen.

5. Bei Presseterminen besteht für mich keine Anwesenheitspflicht. Falls ich erscheinen soll, müssen Reise- und Aufenthaltskosten im Voraus übernommen werden.

Es haben sich mehr als 10 (überwiegend namhafte und erfolgreiche Producer ) für einen Remix gemeldet …und wie immer bei Remix-Aufträgen ist alles easy und locker bei den Jungs, denn sie wissen, dass es dabei nicht um Geld geht, sondern um Namedropping, zumal der Song in zahlreichen Ländern veröffentlicht wird.

Du kommst hier aber mit Dingen um die Ecke, die einem „Superstar“ entsprechen. Tut mir leid, aber ich möchte unter diesen Umständen von einem Remix Abstand nehmen und muß jetzt darauf hinweisen, daß die bereits überlassenen Parts weder benutzt noch in irgendeiner Form weiterverbreitet werden dürfen.

Am besten gleich alles vom Rechner löschen.

Die von mir geforderten Randbedingungen sind Bestandteil eines stinknormalen Verlagsvertrages und setzt fest wie alles geregelt wird. Ein Vertrag ist da, um beide Seiten im Streitfall abzusichern – nicht, um einem selbst oder dem anderen die Schuhe auszuziehen. Das hat weder etwas mit Geldgier noch mit Star-Allüren zu tun. Sollte es ein Erfolg werden, so wirst du unter diesen Voraussetzungen dein verdientes Namedropping auch erhalten. Was spricht ausserdem dagegen im Erfolgsfall etwas vom Kuchen abzugeben?

Wer sich von vornherein auf diese fairen und marktüblichen Bedingungen nicht einlässt, kann meines Erachtens nach weder professionell noch seriös arbeiten.

Lies dir am besten die fünf Punkte noch einmal durch und verinnerliche sie.

Der Button ist sicherlich so beliebt, weil man damit wesentlich mehr Menschen auf seine Webseiten, Blogs, Fotoalben, etc. zieht als es für den Normalmenschen mit Suchmaschinen möglich ist.

Überall wo man Traffic auf sich ziehen kann, bleiben auch die bösen Buben nicht fern. Hast du schon mal einen Link in deinem Profil gehabt, von dem du ganz sicher weisst, dass du nicht auf gefällt mir geklickt hast? Das ist mir auch schon ein paar Mal passiert und die Ursache dafür war tatsächlich meine Neugier.

Wenn deine Freunde einen Link mit einem lustigen Video posten, schaust du dir das bestimmt auch mal an, denn deine Freunde sind ja glaubwürdig. Doch sehr wahrscheinlich sind sie auch schon auf die Trickbetrüger reingefallen und haben ganz bestimmt nicht den Link absichtlich eingestellt.

Diese Leichtgläubigkeit wird ausgenutzt und fängt damit an, dass ein Spammer einen Link veröffentlicht, der wie ein Video aussieht – oft mit dem Foto einer heissen Frau oder anderen Kuriosität. In etwa so:

Klickt man drauf, erwartet man entweder, dass wie bei Youtube, die Videos direkt in Facebook oder auf einer neuen Webseite angezeigt werden. Genau das machen sich die Klick-Betrüger zu Nutze. Sie lenken auf eine eigene Website und tun so, als ob dort ein Video ist und man muss nur auf Play klicken, um es abzuspielen. Doch der Playbutton ist ein getarnter Gefälltmir-Button.

Wenn man sich den Screenshot anschaut, dann sieht man sofort, dass das vertraute Youtube-Design geklaut wurde. Doch was haben diese Betrüger davon?

Ganz einfach: Klicks.

Klicks bringen Geld, wenn man Werbepartner ist. Ein gutes Beispiel ist Google-Adsense. Für jeden Klick gibt’s ein paar Cents. So werden die Buttons nicht als gefällt-mir-Button getarnt, sondern sind oft auch versteckte Werbung.

Auf der anderen Seite kann es ebenfalls sehr gefährlich sein, diese Webseiten auch nur aufzurufen. Oftmals aktualisieren Nutzer nicht ihre Browser (Internetanguckprogramme) und deren Sicherheitslücken werden ausgenutzt, um Trojaner, Viren und andere Seuchen in dein System zu schleusen. Damit könnte dein Computer zur Spamschleuder bringen oder andere interessante persönliche Daten ausspionieren – beispielsweise gültige eMail-Adressen, die teuer verkauft werden könnten.

Mein Tipp:

Augen auf und Lesen bevor man klickt. Wäre das tatsächlich ein Youtube-Video, dann wäre auch ein Link zu Youtube sichtbar.

Nun bietet Twitter schon seit geraumer Zeit die Trends an, so dass man direkt weiss, welche Themen zur Zeit besonders aktuell in den Tweets zu finden sind. Als ich das letzte mal über den Kurzmitteilungsdienst berichtet hatte, waren diese Trending Topics noch vollgestopft mit Hashtags und es gab so gut wie keinen Eintrag ohne das Gattersymbol.

Die Zeiten scheinen sich allerdings von Nutzerseiten doch allmählich geändert zu haben, denn der Trend dieses Sonderzeichen zu verwenden scheint rückläufig zu werden. Weniger als die Hälfte der Einträge sind jetzt noch Hashtags.

Auch ich persönlich bin zu faul geworden Hashtags zu setzen, weil man mit den 140 Zeichen einfach sparsam umgehen muss und die Text-Analyse-Funktionen auch immer besser werden.

Der beste Lohn für einen guten Artikel sind jedoch immer noch Kommentare, Verweise und Zitate. Von alldem habe ich hier für meine Erwartungen viel zu wenig geerntet. Da mein Blog sich überwiegend mit technischen Dingen beschäftigt, hatte ich einen Grund mehr auf Englisch zu schreiben. Nerds, Geeks, Fanboys gibt es auch jede Menge in Deutschland, von daher schreibe ich nun auf Deutsch, da es mir auch wesentlich leichter fällt und weniger Zeit kostet.

Die Übersetzungshilfe bleibt euch erhalten und hoffentlich leistet Google auch bei der Übersetzung von Deutsch in alle anderen Sprachen gute Arbeit.

Screencasts, Videos, et cetera werde ich künftig auch auf Deutsch aufnehmen und mit englischen Untertiteln an den wichtigsten Stellen versehen – genauso wie in meinem letzten Artikel.

I will not place any advertisements. If you really like my work, then spread the word or donate, flattr, or ask for my banking account.

Testing “free” gifts?

Also I am not interested to “test” any products to give a credit for a pseudo-advertisement. If you want to gift me something, just do it, but don’t ask me to write an article about that. If you require an article for testing something, then it is the same like an advertisement and fooling people – even if it is a good product. If you want something, it is not free!

Why not?

Right, this is MY private blog, and MY place to write what I think and what I like. It is MY intention to give some noticeable articles, to just say my opinion or help people out having the same problem or questions. This is MY view of the meaning of blogging and honest neutral unpaid journalism. When I like a product and want to recommend it, then I will do so – maybe.

Playback with a seek

One of the most unknown and rarely used parameters is the playback with a seek. Let’s say, you want to show a video and the important moment your want to point to is at 1 minute and 28 seconds. Did you know, than you can directly jump into that position? Simply add #t=1m27s behind the video URL like this:

Video starts playing at 1 min and 28 secs.

This is very cool when sharing videos via twitter or instant messengers and you do not want your participant to watch the whole story.

Other options

There are a lot of other values like setting borders, enable related video recommendations, HD playback and some more which you will find on Googles API page. Have a look at it and I am sure, there is something useful for you.

Since I began blogging I like it. It is a quick and innovative development. The most important thing for me is not only the quick and easy installation. Also frequently updating all those nice plugins is just a child’s play.

The handling is easy, and even greenhorns get good along with it. Just find a nice template, punch it in, create some headlined pages and every user can deal with it.

I think the blogging features are almost perfect and there is not much what needs to get improved in my humple opinion. I would prefer native support of multiple languages.

Therefore I like the developers way asking the community to vote for the most wished functions. As the results show, they will concentrate for better multimedia integration. So let’s get excited for the WordPress 2.9 release at about end of October?

Sometimes, when a friend needs technical help or a good tip and I wrote about it, then I advise them to read the appropriate article. But the answer often is:

Hey, your blog is English and I do not understand any word.

It also happens more often, that an article got commented in a language that I do not understand and even can not read because of non-latin letters.

I really tried some WordPress-plugins to make by blog multilingual, but that all did not satisfy me. First of all, I could only provide German and English texts. Secondly it takes so much time, to write everything twice.

Today I found the Google AJAX Translation plugin which is now implemented here with some modifications. As you can see, every article, page and even the comments have now a “Translate” button. Click it, select the language and the content will be replaced instantly with a translation and without reloading the whole page.

Hopefully you like it and the communication barrier is gone!

I have heard from the Twitter service some months ago and I decided to register there. At the beginning I did not see any sense in that service, but then I started to find some interesting people and followed them.

Afterwards I saw the advantages of seeing news and rumors much more quicker than professional newspapers and magazines provided me before. Among them are Heise or even MacWorld. To placate you, I still read you.

Okay, it takes a much time reading all interesting content and filtering the absolutely uninteresting things, but I met some people in real life and gained lots of new knowledge.

Also it makes fun to help people, get help by myself, sharing fun stuff and more. This can not be explained by only using words, you should collect your own experience. For me, twitter went to a part of my daily life.

Maybe you already have noticed, that I wrote some articles like this about Twitter and other sites or tools making it more powerful. Due to that I have created a very own category and sorted the articles into it. Of course, you can click the twitter-tag in the right hand side tag-cloud.

A link brings you to another web resource, mostly a another homepage. If you click one, then you are following it.

Any website containing a link, has a source code looking somewhat like this:

Web-Spiders and search engines will look at this source codes and pick the links out of it – and now we are coming to “follow” and “no follow”.

This is a follow link, that means the search engine or spider will follow that link and index the content to present it when you search for it or some words and keywords containing the site.

No follow makes sense for areas or directories of your website you do not want to be found. Let us say, I have a directory like http://www.markuszeller.com/secret and do not want anything in there to be found. Then I can advise the spider not to look in there by putting in something like this in the index file:

<META name=”ROBOTS” content=”NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW”>

Another way would be, if I link it somewhere in a user-only area:

This, is in my opinion the ONLY reason to use a no follow!

Google says, a no follow would prevent blog spam, and WordPress is believing this advice and made ALL commenters as a no follow. So when you leave a comment in a WordPress blog, it would not be credited in Googles and some other engines search results.

Blogging is hard work and eats a lot of time, so I will credit every commenter! Spam will be deleted, and in case of that, there is no chance and credit for spammers. If you have the same thoughts, then you can get out of this with your blog with just installing the free WordPress plugin DoFollow by Denis de Bernardy.

Here is a list with 11 reasons why NOT to use no follow by nonofollow.net:

1. nofollow does not prevent comment spam
2. nofollow is confusingly named
3. nofollow harms the connections between web sites
4. nofollow is not useful for humans, just for search engines using PageRank or a similar technique
5. nofollow could be used to shut web sites out
6. nofollow discriminates legitimate users as spammers
7. nofollow heists commentators’ earned attention
8. nofollow could be used to further discriminate weblogs
9. nofollow prevents the Web from being a web
10. nofollow eliminates the dissemination of free speech
11. nofollow was developed in privacy with only search engines companies taking part in the discussion

Do you trust SEO-experts? Before you do, have a look at their pagerank! If they are experts, they must have a page rank over 5. If they do not, they are lying and making money with your credulity. You may this free online pagerank checker or any SEO toolbar for your browser.

Due to that I had implemented a plugin called DiggBadger which really fits nice into my wordpress template. But it uses CrossScripting to get the DiggContent and functionality and this takes too much performance in my eyes to load my site. The content will not be displayed until digg.com has answered.

To give my readers the best speed and comfort, I decided to remove it, again. By the way, the amout of diggs I received was too low.

The comment which should have been posted was grabbed from Twitter containing the word Bluthochdruck (German word for high blood pressure). I was listening to a podcast covering that topic.

That makes me really angry to join my activity to that site, where I did not participate and more worse, not to mention that it was grabbed from Twitter at all!

Further investigation lead me to the “powered by” string in the footer. This looks harmless on the first view. imBlickpunkt looks like a news page collecting actual news from all kind of categories. There is a footer again. Leading to money making pornofilmtrailer.net.

They are trying to get hits and profit by generating and collecting links to score at the search engines! SHAME ON YOU!

Xcode installation

Directly with the OS X of your Mac you have a quite big bunch of nice and powerful tools delivered on your installation DVD.

They are not put on your Mac automatically, because they are designed to be developer tools.

To get them running, just insert your Tiger, Leopard (or in future Snow Leopard) installation DVD. Then go to “optional installs” and afterwards to “Xcode Tools”. Install the package or anything else you would need.

The tools are really tiny and do what their names say. It is really worth to have a glance at. So take a little time and install them. The complete thing including documentation and developer IDE will eat about 2,5 GB of disk space.

Comments and Captchas

Blogs live thru activity by comments and articles. To have better view of how many comments are posted, I changed the headline by adding a comic speech bubble.

This counts the number of comments for each article. You can click it or the headline to see the article’s details and read all comments amd of course to leave your own ones.

The spam content growed so much in the last days, that it took me a lot of time removing them. To prevent those nasty spammers as mentioned in my article Suspected Malware Site I have installed the free SI Captcha plugin.

In case of that, you now need to enter a captcha code before leaving a comment.

There were some people with notebooks, but no group of people. So we decided to ask the personnel and they did not know about a meeting or reserved spaces by Tim or Daniel.

For heavens sake I took my MacBook with me and had a look on the invitation thread. Unfortunately there was no mobile number there, so I could not call to ask where they are. But then I had a look at his twitter photo, and Oli remarked, that he saw that guy some minute ago walking to the smoking room.

First, I said, that I could not imagine that nerds would sit in the smoking area with their laptops. But they both and another Tim were there, and all without a laptop.

Then, we all had some nice real chats together and decided to meet regulary every 1st Thursday per month. Maybe some people will follow us.

Due to that I added them to my Blogroll.
